Chip Englander is a Vice President in Mercury’s Sacramento, California office.
Chip advises Fortune 500 companies, associations, and political campaigns in a variety of matters including public affairs, politics, and public opinion research. Before joining Mercury in 2007, Mr. Englander worked inside government and on political campaigns for Governor, United States Senate, United States Congress, State Legislature, and local races in California, Virginia, Michigan, and Oklahoma. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff to California State Assemblyman Joel Anderson. As Chief of Staff, Mr. Englander directed press and legislative policy on the Assemblyman’s historic, first-of-its-kind legislation to divest California’s public employee retirement funds from the Islamic Republic of Iran. This bill was signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger and sparked similar legislation in 12 other states. The legislation garnered attention in Time Magazine, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fox News, CNN Headline News, CNBC, and other media outlets.
Some of Mr. Englander’s recent campaign work includes serving as Campaign Manager for Congressman Ernest Istook’s campaign for Governor of Oklahoma. The campaign won a four-way battle for the Republican nomination despite being vastly outspent. In 2004, Mr. Englander was Campaign Manager on a $5 million San Diego legislative race. He led the campaign to a 49%-48% victory despite being outspent in a year when every other Republican in the district lost. In 2002, Mr. Englander served as Political Director for the Republican Party of San Diego County. The Rush Limbaugh Show called his grassroots efforts in San Diego a “model for the nation.” In 2000 he worked on George Allen’s successful campaign for United States Senate in Virginia.
Mr. Englander has won numerous awards, including the California Republican Party’s Chairman’s Leadership Award and the Lee Atwater Award for campaign management.
Mr. Englander is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He currently resides in Sacramento with his wife, Christina.
