Brian Jones is a Managing Director of Mercury Public Affairs in the firm’s Sacramento, California office.
Jones heads Mercury’s strategic communications practice, advising and developing media campaigns for Fortune 500 companies, associations, political campaigns, and non-profit organizations.
Jones has more than 15 years of public affairs experience, having previously served as the Communications Director for Senator John McCain’s Presidential campaign and the Communications Director at the Republican National Committee. While overseeing a staff of 30 at the RNC, the National Journal wrote that Jones is “one of the best managers in the GOP communications business.”
In 2004, Jones was a part of President Bush’s historic re-election effort, where he worked as a Senior Communications Advisor, helping to run the campaign’s rapid response and regional media operation, while also serving as a spokesperson. Before coming on board the Bush-Cheney campaign, Jones previously worked for Mercury Public Affairs in New York City as the firm’s Vice President for Polling and Advertising, servicing a broad spectrum of political, non-profit and corporate clients. During the 2002 political cycle, Jones was the Research Director at the National Republican Congressional Committee, leading a team that “ran circles around the DCCC’s research staff”, according to the National Journal’s Hotline.
A veteran of campaigns at the local, state and national level, including John McCain’s 2000 bid for the presidency, Jones was once described by former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman as having, “fantastic judgment, the respect of the press, good management skills, creativity and a commitment to excellence.”
Jones earned his BA from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and MA from the University of Washington in Seattle. He lives in Sacramento, California with his wife Emily, daughter Ingrid and son William.
